About Mr. Ian Tapson
Hello! My name is Ian Tapson and I am the music teacher at Boswell Elementary. I teach general music to 14 sections of 4th grade and 13 sections of 5th grade. In addition to my teaching responsibilities, I conduct a select choir, Boswell Singers and direct the Boswell Little Theatre which both meet after school. I also serve on the Positive Behavior Supports and Intervention Team. I have been blessed with this teaching position since August 2010. During the summer, I am a Driver's Education instructor for the Lebanon School District.
After graduating from West Plains High School, I attended Missouri State University in Springfield, Missouri and majored in Vocal Music Education. I graduated in May 2010 with a Bachelor of Music Education. I returned to MSU in January 2012 to pursue my Master's in Educational Administration and graduated in August 2013. I was named Boswell's Teacher of the Year for the 2013-2014 school year.
As a music specialist, I am passionate about letting my students experience music through all forms of singing, playing, moving, creating, and discussing. It is my hope that students leave my classroom well-balanced and ready to participate in a musical ensemble beyond my room and enjoy music of all kinds. I am constantly looking for ways to better myself as a teacher so that my students can reap the benefits.
As an educator, I am highly interested in technology integration within my own classroom as well as using it to expand my professional learning network and collaboration abilities. I have presented at conferences on elementary choir, technology in the music room, and social media to increase your professional learning network..
During my college career, I was a member of Mu Phi Epsilon (a professional music fraternity), Collegiate Music Educators National Conference (CMENC), and Missouri State Teacher's Association (MSTA). I performed with the elite MSU Concert Chorale, touring places such as New York City, Boston, Italy, and Austria. I also performed in the MSU Opera Workshop program and was a Springfield Regional Opera Young Artist.
It was through MSU Opera Workshop that I fell in love with my wife, Jamie. We exchanged vows on June 5, 2010 and have been happily married since. Jamie graduated from Missouri State with her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance in May 2011 and teaches private voice and piano lessons from our home. Our daughter, Aria Noel Tapson, was born on January 4, 2012 and has been a blessing to us ever since. We are expecting our second child in January of 2015. My wife and I also have a miniature Australian Shepherd, Toby, who loves to play with Aria!
