5th Grade
5th grade has been delving into Fall! We have played some more singing games and folk dances such as Alabama Gal. This week we are singing a spooky song called "The Ghost of Tom." Below are pictures from our games and dances. Last week, we also created our own accompaniment on instruments to Emily Dickinson's poem "Autumn." Students created an ostinato and performed it on percussion instruments. Don't be surprised next week--we begin Christmas programs!
4th grade
4th graders have studied the music of Schubert. We listened to two of his works" "Der Erlkonig" and "Die Forelle" to understand lieder and form. I believe our favorite was Der Erlkonig! We also have been playing some games like "MIss Mary Mac" and "Cheki Morena." Students discovered rondo form in Cheki Morena and created an improvised B, C, and D section. This week we are looking at a Maori stick passing song called Ma Ku Ay. Let's just say that we did not quite have it down like the video! See the pics below!
Both grades are also using centers this week as I assess pattern recognition and rhythm reading!
