5th grade
5th graders reviewed our patriotic songs and played a game on the Smartboard to see how well they remembered the lyrics to the Star-Spangled Banner. We also reviewed the facts behind the lyrics. September 14 marks the 200th anniversary of Francis Scott Key penning those famous words in his poem, "The Defense at Fort McHenry."
We got our percussion instruments out and accompanied ourselves on "Jambo" and reviewed expectations for instruments. It was powerful to see them make MUSIC and not NOISE!
We ended with a quick review of staff and note names as well as some rhythm reading. We are ready for recorders this week!

4th grade
4th graders played a fun game called "Wake Me, Shake Me" and moved with a partner. It really helped them develop teamwork and strengthen their singing voices! No one was left out and everyone always had a partner.
We finished our Star-Spangled Banner video and reviewed our facts from last time. It was interesting to put ourselves in Francis Scott Key's shoes and think about what he was feeling while the battle raged on 200 years ago! Check out the interactive flag we looked at!

We looked at the information a musical staff provides us with and learned tricks to practice note names.
Lines: Ernie Gave Bert Dead Frogs
Spaces: FACE! (It rhymes with SPACE)
Practice these on your hand from pinky (line E) to thumb (line F).
We should be ready for recorders this week, too.
